Smith, Benjamin F., 1811-1892. Military Record Book, 1862-1865
The Benjamin F. Smith collection contains the special orders issued by or during Smith’s command of a Civil War military training camp at Fort Snelling. Furthermore, it includes pay rolls, muster rolls, special orders, and financial records dating from his service as commander of the militia for Blue Earth County in the Dakota Conflict.

The J. G. Thompson collection contains a contemporary letter written on 5 July 1863 from Hutchinson, Minnesota. The letter contains information concerning the murder of Little Crow in 1863.
Winter, August Edward, 1838 - 1927. Reminiscences, 1861 - 1865
This collection consists of a transcribed photocopy, jfrom German to English, of the reminiscences of August Edward Winter. Winter served as a German Lutheran minister on the Minnesota frontier, and he detailed his experience in the paper. In the document. Winter described of living conditions, wages, Minnesota communities, the Dakota Conflict, a grasshopper invasion, and Minnesota's pioneers.
